World languages and culture
Multicultural education is an important aspect of our Montessori program. We teach children to tolerate differences and celebrate similarities. Our cultural lessons and presentations help them understand, and develop a positive attitude and appreciation towards other cultures.
Young minds have the capacity to acquire any language. Children ages 3-6 are in a sensitive period for culture and language. Our focus on world languages allows children to profit from this window of opportunity. Exposing children to different languages helps them develop neural pathways for acquisition of language. Through songs, poems, and lessons that they hear in different languages, their brains will produce and acquire the sound systems of different languages.
Cultural studies go hand in hand with geography. Children learn about earth and it’s place in the universe. They learn about land and water forms, the continents, countries, states and capitals. As they study each continent, they are introduced to different traditions, lifestyles, holidays and food of people from different regions.
Teachers and parents of our school are native speakers of Spanish, Hindi, Tagalog and Chinese, offering our children the opportunity to learn their languages and their cultures.
